Every one of your teeth is firmly anchored in your mouth by a series of periodontal ligaments. Even though they hold very strong in the socket, there are still times when a blow to the face or an accidental fall can impart enough force to actually knock one of your teeth out. When this happens, it’s important to keep calm and call Dr. Stephen A. Maniaci immediately for advice and to schedule an appointment.

If there is blood or debris in your mouth you can rinse it away and sooth the injured tissues with lukewarm salt water. This will help you get a clear understanding of the extent of the problem.

It might be possible for Dr. Stephen A. Maniaci to implant the knocked-out tooth back into the socket. If there is any chance of this succeeding the tooth needs to have been knocked out cleanly and still be alive.

You can keep the knocked-out tooth alive by holding it in your cheek. There are also tooth preservation products available for sale that are filled with a specially formulated nourishing gel. To use it, you simply place the knocked out tooth in the jar and seal it. In most cases, the tooth preservation product can keep the tooth alive long enough for us to assess the situation and attempt implantation.

If the tooth was fractured, damaged or there is some of it still lodged in the socket, then Dr. Stephen A. Maniaci will either need to perform a root canal or in extreme cases the remainder of the tooth will need to be extracted.

If one of your teeth has been knocked out, you should call Dr. Stephen A. Maniaci as soon as possible at 610-678-5858 to schedule an emergency appointment.
